Daimler. Double six. VandenPlas. Original Dutch delivered. Regent Grey paintwork, Savile Grey leather; a great combination!
A good Series 3 Jaguar, let alone a Daimler, is hard to find these days. I was surprised when the previous owner drove by with the Double Six, because the good condition is immediately noticeable, you can see that at a glance. Sleek sheet metal, shiny paint, an apparently correct position of the carriage on the chassis. Sounds exaggerated, but just pay attention and you’ll see.
What a wonderful appearance, this 5.3 V12 in Regent Grey. Just look at the renovated Kent rims; Completely in new condition, beautifully finished.
You can tell by everything that the Double Six has been handled well and economically. No missing details, no noticeable flaws. Everything just as it should be. The Savile Gray leather upholstery is in particularly neat condition. Perfectly cooling air conditioning, a nice and smooth running 5.3 V12. That’s how we like to see it. By the way, the air conditioning has already been modified and is therefore filled with the more modern R134a gas, a big plus since the older gas is no longer available.
Possibly even more important is the condition of the Series 3 when looking at rust. No rust visible on fenders, sills or atthe underbody. The sheet metal under the rear window is also free of rust. Some imperfections are only visible on the frame around the windshield, fortunately already well repaired and protected.
Make no mistake; We are now talking about real classics, oldtimers. A car that is almost 40 years old in this condition is not self-evident. While every Series 3 XJ may look good in photos, the differences are enormous.
These differences are made by the drive and his choice of technician. A specialist knows the weak points of the classic and responds to them perfectly. This also applies to this Daimler; The Daimler was previously managed by other renowned specialist Stenger Jaguar, amongst others. Take a look at the engine compartment and you immediately see this specialism. Even the fuel lines on top of the block have been preventively replaced, as they became porous given their age. No strange oil leaks, no leaky gaskets and no inferior repairs to be noted, that’s how it should be!
In addition, maintenance was carried out last week, no strange matters were noticed. The headliner has already been renovated in the past, the result is very good.
Why would you sell a Daimler like this, instead of keeping? The previous owner shared that opinion, but when he saw our S-Type 3.8 Saloon from 1965, some room had to be made in the garage, so the Daimler was traded in.
Well, there must be something to note, you say? Of course there are some small things to mention. Currently the cruise control is not available. The front tires are from a different brand, but same size. Just small things, but worth mentioning. What remains is pure enjoyment!
Don’t pay attention to the imperfection in the wooden panel around the switch link, this panel has now been replaced by a ‘New old stock’ copy, a perfect match.
For Dutch enthusiasts, it is worth noting that given the year of production of the Daimler, it falls into the so-called transitional arrangement where you have the option to pay only €120 per year in road tax.
There is still a lot to say about this Daimler, but you will of course only get a good idea when you view and drive the car. you are very welcome in Uden, the coffee is ready.
